Immediate and effective measures are essential to eliminate organized begging networks, says Chairman Piyas International Rana Imran Latif

Rana Imran Latif, Chairman of the non-profit welfare organization PIYASS International, has stressed the need for immediate and decisive action to eliminate organized begging networks across the country, saying that immediate and effective steps are indispensable to restore Pakistan’s dignity and international image.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Chairman PIAAS International said that for the past several years, there has been a continuous increase in organized begging in Pakistan and repeated appeals to the relevant authorities to take effective measures. However, despite continuous attention, this issue was ignored for a long time, as a result of which the organized begging networks grew stronger and Pakistan’s international reputation was severely damaged. Chairman PIAAS International Rana Imran Latif said that organized begging is no longer just a social or welfare issue, but has become a source of various crimes including theft, pickpocketing, human trafficking, child exploitation, fraud and other forms of organized crime. Due to this, instead of charitable assistance reaching the truly deserving people, criminal networks continue to exploit weak and helpless women, children, elderly and disabled people. Chairman PIAAS International Rana Imran Latif demanded that the relevant institutions responsible for the continuous failure to control this growing scourge be held effectively accountable. Urgent and decisive action is needed across the country to eradicate organized begging networks. can be eliminated, law enforcement agencies should be further strengthened and education, technical training and employment opportunities should be provided to the deserving individuals for their rehabilitation.
